Ok, listen up true believers and those of you who have been reading my rants and raves over the past few months. If you haven't been reading(shame on you!) then start at the bottom and work your way up....it gets better as we go...but we still need more worshipers...err... um mm...followers...ummmm.....READERS! yeah! readers is what I meant!
The whole organic thing with google and other search engines or portals or whatever, is like the icing on the proverbial cake...some may disagree with this but it needs to be said and that is that ORGANIC results are the purest(99.9999994%) form of search you will ever get.
The results are the untampered answers to your input queries and as straight forward as you can just about get.
So, Ok you are scratching your head at this point and saying to yourself "what ____ has this got to do with me?"
It has everything to do with you, but of course IF you are a seasoned webmaster or have ever attempted SEO then please step to the side and let the newbies get some milk from the tit...OKAY?
Aside from the obvious things like fresh content updated regularly on your site, and many other little things, there are certain KEYWORDS that will help guide a search engine with where it should put your site in their listings.
Well, here we go....how do I KNOW which keywords will work best? HOPE YOU ARE AWAKE BECAUSE THIS IS SO SINFULLY DELICIOUS that most will say it won't work, but I SAY IT WILL!
The easiest way to know the top keywords are simply to search for your niche, topic, or main category, and visit the TOP 5 or 10 websites and while on their site either LOOK AT THE PAGE SOURCE and get the keywords and write them down or use something like the ALEXA TRAFFIC RANK tool and it extracts the top 10 keywords for that website based on SEVERAL different criteria! It's an awesome tool and FREE through the google apps web store! I'm sure there are other programs and sites that will do the same thing!
Another thing that a LOT of sites are doing now is ALLOWING you to SEE their keywords being used directly on the page. It's not a new concept, but it's picking back up in popularity. It's called, by some, a TAG CLOUD! IF i'm wrong about a tag cloud then please correct me because the last thing I need is to steer people wrong.
Anyway, doing these simple things WILL DRASTICALLY improve your search rankings and remember to be careful and not to OVER USE the keywords or use the WRONG KEYWORDS! BUT the whole point here is that IF A KEYWORD in YOUR NICHE works FOR someone else in your NICHE and they are at the top of the RANKINGS then DO WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND MAKE IT BETTER! DUH! JUST DON'T COPY THEIR CONTENT, BUT USE THEIR KEYWORDS OR A CLOSE VARIATION!
